I finished reading 'Sworn To Raise' last night, but with the snow and the Daytona 500 (Go Logano!) I got a little delayed in posting about it. Click the Read More button to continue reading my review!
'Sworn To Raise' is the first book in the 'Courtlight Series' books. I've left links in previous posts, telling everyone how it's free, and still is! Right after I finished that book, I immediately started on the next, which is too easy to do on the kindle...
This book is full of magic and it's a great story about an orphan who finds a way out of the life of a peasant and into a life of luxury. Throughout the book, the main character, Ciardis, is a normal girl who comes into her birthright on her 18th birthday and begins to realize what that entails. After her powers come to her, she's faced with a prince, named Sebastian, whose own mage powers have been nearly non-existent since he was a young boy. Sebastian and Ciardis agree to work together to find out how he can restore his powers, and he knows how, but he needs Ciardis' help, no matter what it may cost her in the long run. It's a great story, and even though it's the first book of at least 6 in the series, it's not a crazy cliffhanger ending that leaves readers disappointed. I like the way it ended and smoothly transitioned into the second book.
As I said in a previous post about this book, someone compared it to 'The Princess Diaries' and 'The Selection.' The only link between the three is the fact that there is royalty in all three stories. It's got a hint of romance in it, but I'm not sure if it will pan out due to some remarks Ciardis makes, leading me to believe that the characters may just remain friends.
Overall, it's the beginning of what I believe will be a great series to read.
