Didn't get much of a chance to post anything this weekend! So much going on that I didn't have any time!
Anyways, today's Book to Movie Monday is about 'Inkheart' by Cornelia Funke. I've read the book and seen the movie, and my opinion? The movie was horrible compared to the book. The written word just brought the story to life and offered so much magic that the movie just couldn't do it justice! Plus, the ending was off as I recall. However, if you've never read the book, the movie was good on its own.
The book is centered around Meggie and her father, Mo. Mo has a gift where anything he reads aloud can literally come out of the book and into our world. But, for everything that comes out of the book, something has to go into it. One of which, is Meggie's mother, and they don't know how to get her back out. This leads Mo to stop reading out loud to his daughter, and he furiously tries to find a way to bring his wife back out of the book, 'Inkheart.' The mother went into the book while Meggie was a small child, so Meggie doesn't remember the book, but knows her mother is missing, she just doesn't know why. Mo has spent years searching for another copy of the rare book to hopefully read his wife back out again. One day, years after her mother disappeared into Inkheart, Meggie sees a man outside their home, and she finds out that it's someone that her father knows, and he is introduced as Dustfinger. Dustfinger is one of the characters who came out of Inkheart, and he speaks to Mo secretly in Mo's office, much to Meggie's displeasure. After Dustfinger leaves, Mo tells Meggie that they are leaving to go to her aunt Elinor's house immediately. Mo, Meggie and Dustfinger all meet up and arrive at Elinor's home, a large house filled with books, most of them rare. From there, we learn that Capricorn, the villain in Inkheart, is also in our world, and Mo is kidnapped and taken to Capricorn's camp, where Dustfinger and Meggie are determined to help him escape from. This story is filled with magic and books that literally come alive on pages and it makes you wish it would never end! I don't want to give the whole plot away, so I'll stop there.
It's a great summer read as you're sitting outside in the sun and great for fans of fantasy and looking for a nice and easy read.
This is a book rated for 8-12 year olds, but I read it a couple years after it came out and I fell in love with the story, and have since read the other two books in the series as they were published. If this book sounds interesting to you, check it out via the link below!
If you want to check out the movie, I've also included the link below! It had a great cast, and was a good movie, but just didn't live up to the magic of the book.
